92 million litres of water treated each day in Chinchilla

November 04, 2013
Meet Kenya. Based near Chinchilla in Queensland, the Kenya water treatment plant is an essential piece of the coal seam gas puzzle for Australian natural gas explorer and producer, QGC. The plant treats up to 92 million litres – the equivalent of almost 37 Olympic swimming pools - of saline water from coal seam gas extraction each day through a process of pre-treatment, ultrafiltration, ion exchange and reverse osmosis and brine concentration using GE’s advanced water technologies and process know-how.  The GE Power & Water team worked with QGC to help convert an unusable water by-product into a beneficial water supply for agricultural, industrial use and the local community. To keep the Kenya water treatment facility up and running, QGC uses GE-powered gas engines which combined generate 31 megawatts of power.
