While Gisele Bundchen and Don Cheadle may be some of the world’s better known World Environment Day supporters, normal folks from around Australia and New Zealand are also doing their bit. Today we share some of our favourites, four of the most innovative, exciting and creative World Environment Day projects from our fair lands.

Go nude in Brisbane, Australia

Disclaimer: before you strip off your shirt, it’s your food that’s going nude, not you. <a href=UnitingCare Community will hold Nude Food Lunches today to raise awareness about packaging free lunches. The purpose is to help people think about how much packaging waste is created each and every day.

More energy hits the surface of the earth in an hour than what you use every year. To harness this energy, solar superstars in the World Solar Challenge will use the power of the sun to fuel custom-built cars in a trip across Australia. The 2015 World Solar Challenge launches today. If you fancy entering, click <a href=here. Image courtesy of World Solar Challenge.

Grass roots up in Christchurch, New Zealand

Today the kids of Gosford will focus on creating a better habitat for creatures great and small. A local childcare centre will create a new home for the small green tree frogs found in the centre gardens. A team of children (under the careful guidance of teachers!) will build a pond made of recycled materials to provide a safe and natural habitat for the frogs to thrive and to teach the kids more about a frog’s life.
