Total Angola Selects GE Business Unit Thermodyn to Supply Equipment for Offshore Oil Facility

September 04, 2003

FLORENCE, ITALY (September 4, 2003) --- Total Angola has awarded a contract to Thermodyn, a business unit of GE Oil & Gas, to supply complete power generation and compression equipment for a new offshore production facility to be located in the deepwater Dalia oil field, Block 17, off the coast of Angola. The new floating production storage offloading (FPSO) unit is scheduled to begin operation during the second half of 2006.
Thermodyn will supply and install five gas turbines and six compressors. These machines will be arranged in three packages of 30-megawatt PGT+25 gas turbine-generators, two packages of HP turbocompressors (two PGT 25+ gas turbines driving four compressors), and two packages of LP and export/injection electric motor-driven compressors operating at 300 bars.
The equipment will be manufactured and tested in the United States, Italy and France, under Thermodyn's responsibility.
"This is one of the most significant contracts we have received," said Yves Menat, Thermodyn general manager. "We are very pleased that Total, one of the oil and gas industry's leading exploration and production companies, has selected our technology for this important project."
Thermodyn, headquartered in Paris with a plant in Le Creusot, is the GE Oil & Gas Center of Excellence in France for the design, production and service of low to medium pressure centrifugal compressors and low to medium power steam turbines. GE Oil & Gas, a unit of GE Power Systems, is based in Florence, Italy, the home of Nuovo Pignone, a long-time global leader in gas compression and turbo generation products.
