Snapshot: GE Gas Turbine Installations Aboard Cruise Ships

March 16, 2004

March 16, 2004 -- GE Marine, at its Evendale, Ohio facility, manufactured all the LM aeroderivative gas turbines for the following projects. The LM gas turbine-generator sets were built and sold by GE Energy, headquartered in Houston, Texas.
To date, 22 LM2500+ and four LM2500 GE gas turbine-generator sets are in operation or slated for service on 17 cruise ships.
Royal Caribbean International
Propulsion system:
Two GE LM2500+ gas turbine-generator sets in a COmbined Gas turbine and steam turbine integrated Electric drive System (COGES) configuration.
Operational ship(s):
- Radiance of the Seas (April 2001)
- Brilliance of the Seas (July 2002)
- Serenade of the Seas (August 2003)
Ship scheduled for service:
- Jewel of the Seas (April 2004)
Celebrity Cruises
Propulsion system:
Two GE LM2500+ gas turbine-generator sets in a COGES configuration.
Operational ships:
- Millennium (July 2000)
- Infinity (March 2001)
- Summit (October 2001)
- Constellation (May 2002)
Princess Cruises
Propulsion system:
One GE LM2500+ gas turbine-generator set in a COmbined Diesel And Gas turbine (CODAG) configuration with either two or four diesel-generator sets.
Operational ships:
- Coral Princess (January 2003)
- Island Princess (July 2003)
- Diamond Princess (February 2004)
Ship scheduled for service:
- Sapphire Princess (May 2004)
Cunard Line
Propulsion system:
Two GE LM2500+ gas turbine-generator sets in a CODAG configuration with four diesel-generator sets.
Operational ship:
- Queen Mary 2 (January 2004)
Holland America Line
Propulsion system:
One LM2500 gas turbine-generator set in a CODAG configuration with five diesel-generator sets.
Operational ships:
- Zuiderdam (December 2002)
- Oosterdam (June 2003)
- Westerdam (April 2004)
