* GE Highlighting its Technology Leadership at World Future Energy Summit
United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi; January 17, 2010: As the Middle East continues to face growing energy and environmental challenges, GE (GE:NYSE) is showcasing its commitment to smarter, cleaner and more efficient energy solutions at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) January 18-21 in Abu Dhabi.
"Building a cleaner and more sustainable energy future is the central focus of the energy industry in the Middle East today, as well as around the world," said Joseph Anis, GE Energy's president for the Middle East. "The challenge we all face is balancing the need to increase the energy infrastructure to fuel economic growth on one side, while meeting environmental responsibilities on the other. The World Future Energy Summit is an excellent forum for government and industry leaders to discuss the cooperation, teamwork and dedication that it will take to achieve our mutual goals."
With its global resources and experience, as well as its long and successful regional heritage, GE is well positioned to understand and respond to the cleaner technology and efficiency needs of the Middle East. "We are committed to working with our partners throughout the Middle East to deliver solutions that will help them increase efficiency and optimize the region's abundant natural energy resources," noted Anis. "With supportive government policies, the region has the potential to become a role model to create a more advanced and sustainable energy economy."
A major focus for GE at WFES will be the company's leadership in "smart grid" technologies. The smart grid marries automation and information technologies with the current electrical infrastructure to support 21st century energy needs. The smart grid delivers real-time information increasing energy efficiency, and power reliability while optimizing the integration of cleaner energy sources into the network. Bob Gilligan, vice president of transmission and distribution for GE Energy, will participate in an executive plenary forum at WFES entitled "Pay Back Time for the Green Economy," scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20.
GE's booth "6300" at the WFES supports the theme "Enabling the Future." GE will showcase its broad range of cleaner, smarter and more efficient power, water and oil and gas technology solutions and services that better utilize the region's available resources.
