Prime Minister's CSR Awards 2011 For GE Malaysia

November 02, 2012

Kuala Lumpur, 2 November 2012 -- General Electric Malaysia (GE) emerged as the overall winner of the Prime Minister's CSR Award 2011 and also bagged two other awards -- best Workplace Practices and Empowerment of Women. GE triumphed over 57 other companies and took home three out of the nine awards. The awards were presented by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that CSR programs play an important role in changing the nation's socio-economic structure and in turn, guarantee a corporate body's ability to be in business for a long time.

Stuart Dean, CEO of GE ASEAN and a Governor of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) said, "It is a great recognition for GE and the awards will inspire us to work even harder as a responsible corporate citizen in Malaysia. We have been in Malaysia for close to 40 years as employer of choice to over 1,300 Malaysians. Leadership and talent development of our people is always a key priority. Malaysia is home to our regional headquarters in ASEAN. This clearly underscores our commitment to the country's development and economic transformation."

GE champions the advancement of women leaders in the workplace through the GE Women's Network. The network helps foster the professional development of women within the company and provide a comprehensive human resource framework and policies to support work-life balance. Many of GE's leadership positions are held by women and, through the network, we aim to increase visibility and opportunities for women employees by providing leadership, advancement, and career-broadening development through a variety of tools including information, education, and networking.

The Prime Minister's CSR Awards, launched by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development in 2007, recognizes companies that have made a difference to the communities in which they are active through their CSR programs. The winners of the awards were chosen by a panel of nine judges selected for their understanding of and their commitment to CSR.
