OzHarvest gets a helping hand from Custom Fleet

June 15, 2011

It was with great pleasure that Custom Fleet handed over the keys to a Toyota HiAce to one of GE's key community partners, OzHarvest.

OzHarvest is a non-denominational charity that rescues excess food which would otherwise be discarded. This excess food is distributed to charities supporting the vulnerable in Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle and Adelaide.

Even though the weather was bitterly cold, a 60 strong crowd of proud employees watched as Steve Sargent, President & CEO, GE Australia & New Zealand and Jim Cock, Managing Director of Custom Fleet handed the keys over to Ronni Khan the founder of OzHarvest.

The OzHarvest team was clearly delighted with this initiative and the van was driven off to be put into immediate use around Sydney. The first pick-up was from the MasterChef kitchen which was then delivered to the Newtown Mission. OzHarvest will use the free lease vehicle to collect dry foodstuffs and fruit and vegetables. It is expected to help transport more than 500 kilograms of food a week that can be put to good use within the community.
