Under the terms of a new, long-term cooperative agreement between GE Transportation - Aircraft Engines and NPO Saturn, NPO Saturn has begun testing GE and CFM commercial engines. Testing of the first engine, a CFM56-5B, was initiated on July 19 in test cell 26 at the NPO Saturn facility at Rybinsk, Russia
CFM56 engines are produced by CFM International, a 50/50 joint company of Snecma of France and General Electric.
Testing initiation, which culminates two years of test cell and equipment upgrades and technical training of NPO Saturn personnel, represents a major milestone in the cooperation between the two companies.
