New Hydro Plant in Norway Features Equipment from GE Hydro

March 03, 2003

OSLO, NORWAY (March 3, 2003) --- GE Hydro has supplied a new hydro turbine and additional equipment to Tysseland Kraftlag AS, a consortium of local Norwegian landowners, for a new hydroelectric plant that recently entered service in Tysseland Kraftverk, Norway.
Under a US$1.4 million contract, GE Hydro supplied a complete water-to-wire, electromechanical package, engineered by the GE Hydro team in Kjeller, Norway. The package included a 4.8-megwatt, 6-jet Pelton turbine and main inlet valve, a 5.5 MVA generator, and all necessary electrical and mechanical balance-of-plant equipment. The plant is providing power for the wholesale power market in Norway.
"GE Hydro's simplified and cost-effective solution made this small hydro project very feasible," said Bjoern Saele, general manager of Tysseland Kraftlag AS. "We see this project as another way to optimize our investments in property while providing a source of clean, renewable energy for our country."
Formed in 2000, Tysseland Kraftlag AS owns large tracts of land including rivers in Suldal County, Norway. The consortium was formed to generate, transmit and sell power in the Norwegian power market. One of its major investors, Haugaland Kraft, has been a wellestablished power generator in Norway for more than 50 years.
GE Hydro, a unit of GE Power Systems, is a world leader in the supply of hydro turbines, generators and related electro-technical equipment for the hydropower production industry. Capabilities include complete wire-to-water solutions for new hydroelectric plants and refurbishment and service for existing plants.
