New GE(R) Frontload Laundry Pair Offers King-Sized Capacity, Upscale Look and Impressive Water and Energy Savings

November 11, 2005

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2005--When it comes time to remodel a home, or a laundry room, more and more consumers are looking to frontload washers and dryers...and GE is answering that demand with its new GE frontload laundry pair.

"More consumers are choosing frontload laundry pairs for their capacity, water and energy savings, and their ability to keep clothes looking new longer," said Jennifer Mintman, Product General Manager - Cleaning Products, GE Consumer & Industrial.

"The frontload market has grown from approximately 625,000 washers in 2001 to an estimated over 2 million units this year -- about 25% of the industry -- and we see more growth on the horizon," Mintman added.

When building or remodeling, consumers have many reasons to look to the new GE frontload laundry pair.

The pair offers king-size capacity. Big enough to handle 22 full-size bath towels or a king-size comforter, the king-sized 3.7(1) cubic foot stainless washer basket and the spacious 7.0 cubic foot dryer drum make room for family-size loads, saving time, water and energy. Large 15" door openings make loading the washer and dryer a breeze.

The pair makes a fashion statement. This attractive laundry pair makes a handsome addition to any living space, with its easy-to-grasp TrueGrip(TM) handles, ergonomic controls, and LED display. Stylish and durable glass doors and a bright DuraDrum(TM) interior make it easy to see inside the washer and dryer.

A variety of installation options include stacking the machines for an integrated look, or consumers may choose custom under-the-counter, built-in or side-by-side installations.

The water and energy savings are amazing. The new GE frontload washer uses as little as 10 gallons of water for a small load and 15 gallons for an average-size load, which saves up to 23 gallons per load, or 61% water.(2) The GE frontload washer exceeds 2004 ENERGY STAR(R) guidelines by 28% and already meets 2007 energy standards. In fact, the GE frontload washer's total energy and water savings can pay for the initial cost of the washer over life.(3)

Outstanding clothes care:

-- The washer doesn't use an agitator so clothes look newer longer. Plus, the gentle HydroMotion(TM) reversing tumble wash action of the washer and extra low heat selection (125 degrees Farenheit) on the dryer helps protect valuable delicates like fine knits, baby clothes, delicate silks and quilts.

-- Dual electronic moisture sensors and two thermistors help prevent under- or over-drying. Whites stay white and bright thanks to a new HydroHeater(TM) internal water heater. The heater increases water temperature to improve wash performance of particularly tough stains and on loads like white cottons.

-- The Flow-Thru(TM) dispenser system releases the detergent, fabric softener, additives and bleach at just the right time so consumers don't have to.

GE is known for "America's Most Dependable Washers!" GE and GE Profile washers have the lowest repair frequency among leading brands purchased since 2001, according to an independent national survey of consumers who purchased a leading brand of washer from 2001-2004.

Available December 2005, the GE Frontload Laundry Pair will be offered in white and a new color option, granite gray, which will be available in April 2006. The estimated retail price range of the GE frontload washer is $899-$949 and the dryer is $649-$749.
