New GE Profile Harmony Clothes Care System; First Ever Laundry Pair That Communicates LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 2003-- The washer talks. The dryer listens. The result is better clothes care. Introducing the GE (NYSE:GE) Profile Harmony(TM) Clothes Care System, the first washer that communicates electronically to the dryer, presetting dry cycles for better clothes care and increased time savings. Once the wash options are selected, there's no need to program the dryer.
The washer delivers load information to the dryer so that once the dryer gets the message, it automatically determines which settings will deliver the best results. This innovative laundry pair will be available at the end of this month.
GE conducted research in consumers' homes over the last few years to learn how family laundry habits and clothing trends have changed, said Jennifer Mintman, general manager for GE clothes care. These new discoveries were used to create the Harmony Clothes Care System, which is designed for today's lifestyles. Performance, clothes care, capacity, and water, energy and time savings were the top consumer cues.
As a result, we developed a revolutionary new clothes care system that meets these needs like no other washer and dryer pair on the market. Harmony is the largest-capacity laundry pair available. Its king-size, 4.0 cubic foot+ stainless steel washer basket makes room for more items, which means fewer loads per week. The high spin speed (up to 1010 revolutions per minute) means better water extraction and less dry time. But high speed does not mean sacrificing gentle clothes care. (+Washes equivalent amount of clothes as 4.0 cu. ft. agitator machines, per International Electrotechnical Commission ratios) Harmony's washer delivers front load wash performance with top load convenience. Instead of an agitator, an innovative new HydroWash(TM) system gently and thoroughly cleans clothes so they look newer longer. Using centrifugal forces, the centrifusion wash action gently pulls detergent solution throughout the clothing, and a rotating basket and infusor provide gentle cleaning action resulting in less wear and tear on fabrics.
This ENERGY STAR(R) washer is in harmony with the environment too. Water levels are matched to load size, resulting in water and energy savings. Harmony uses up to 40 percent less water than a traditional top load machine and up to 47 percent less energy than the DOE energy conservation standard. A Stain Inspector(TM) system takes the guesswork out of treating stains. It offers more than 65 common stain problem selections and optimizes wash cycles based on stain type, fabric and garment color, making it the most comprehensive stain removal system available.
The Flow-Thru(TM) dispenser system releases the detergent, fabric softener, additives and bleach at just the right time so consumers don't have to. The timed dispensers are not only convenient, but provide optimum cleaning as well. Traditionally, the washer has been the primary driver when consumers make their purchasing decision on a laundry pair. But, through lifestyle and clothing care research, GE has found that the dryer is just as important as the washer and must provide great performance too!
The king-size, 7.3 cubic foot stainless steel dryer drum handles king-sized items and family-size loads. The huge dryer door opening is the largest in the industry, making loading and unloading a breeze. Harmony's dryer is the fastest premium dryer you can buy. The DuoDry(TM) system quickly and consistently dries all types of clothes. The system uses two motors to maintain proper airflow and control tumbling action to ensure fast, even drying.
Two electronic moisture sensors and two temperature sensors help prevent under or over drying. An extra low delicate temperature, which averages 125 degrees, protects fine hand washables. The dryer delivers outstanding performance whether the equivalent venting system is very short or 150 feet long.
As people continue to move their laundry into living spaces of the home, appearance is more important than ever. Harmony's trend-setting design is elegant and unique. Its bold look takes washer and dryer design to a new level with curved, interchangeable control panels and state-of-the-art LCD touch screens. Also attention getting is the see-through glass dryer door.
The GE Profile Harmony Clothes Care System comes in white or all-new dark platinum. The suggested retail price range of the laundry pair (washer model WPGT9350C and dryer model DPGT750EC or DPGT750GC) is $1,998 - $2,198.
