Media Advisory: Its Labor Day... Take the Day off - Imagine Mel and Demi Do Your Laundry LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2003--GE Consumer Products (NYSE:GE): What: GE's National Men Do Laundry Month wrapped up just in time for Labor Day - and what better way to celebrate than throwing down the laundry basket and dreaming of a celebrity tackling the age-old chore.
According to a national survey released this week by GE Harmony, 42 percent of women are clamoring for Mel Gibson to take on their laundry chores, while men - now sufficiently in the know about laundry do's and don'ts - would most like to lend a hand to Demi Moore. Women's top celebrity picks for help with the laundry are:
-- Mel Gibson - 42%
-- George Clooney - 22%
-- Brad Pitt - 17%
-- Tom Cruise - 10%
-- Denzel Washington - 9%
And men would most like to lend a hand with the laundry to:
-- Demi Moore - 24%
-- Catherine Zeta Jones - 22%
-- Halle Berry - 20%
-- Pamela Anderson - 18%
-- Jennifer Lopez - 17%
Why: While many people may dream of a labor-free Labor Day and of celebrities doing their laundry, the truth is 89 percent of women are still primarily responsible for handling the chore in households across America, according to the results of a national consumer survey by GE Harmony. Recognizing the great laundry divide that exists between the sexes, GE Harmony celebrated National Men Do Laundry Month throughout August with a final celebration at a Women's Expo in Dallas, TX.
The campaign helped to raise national awareness of how Americans can better manage the chore. With this declaration, women are encouraged to put down their laundry baskets for one month and share the load with their partners. Furthermore, women can rest assured when leaving their man with the load, and men have no excuses left for not taking over the laundry: GE Consumer Products has introduced the GE Profile Harmony(TM) Clothes Care System, the first washer that communicates electronically to the dryer, presetting dry cycles for better clothes care and increased time savings.
