● Mary Hackett receives an Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence Award 2015 for her outstanding work and influence in the oil and gas sector
● Recognised for her exceptional leadership skills and mentorship of women in engineering
Australia, Sept 25, 2015: Mary Hackett, Regional Director of GE Oil & Gas Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea has been named among Australia’s Top 100 most influential women in the annual Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence Awards, which celebrates the achievements of women in every walk of life.
The award panel recognised her innovative approach to leadership and successful business strategy during a challenging time for the oil and gas sector. Based in Western Australia, Hackett leads one of GE’s largest oil and gas regions globally, which employs 600 people and sees GE involved in every facet of the oil and gas industry in the country.
Throughout her career her passion has been to make a difference whether by promoting gender balance, recognizing quiet performers or driving operational excellence in the business. She recounts her greatest moments as those where her guidance propelled others to reach unexpected potential.
Mary Hackett said: “The Women of Influence awards celebrate the extraordinary achievements of women across the country and inspire young women to aim for greatness. My joy is not only the marvelous honour of receiving this award but also to be placed in a peer group of truly remarkable people who are living proof of the massive value add of inclusiveness in the workplace.”
“It was my sister who first inspired me to pursue engineering. Along the way my early mentors, many of whom are male, encouraged me to never play it safe and always pursue what truly ignites and extends me. This is the strong message I continue to give to my team and the women I have mentored throughout my career so far.”
Geoff Culbert, President & CEO, GE Australia and New Zealand said: “In an industry where women account for less than 12 per cent of the roles, and the number in leadership roles is even lower, Mary is an inspiration to her peers and richly deserves this award.”
