FAIRFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2002--Judy L. Hu, has been named General Manager for Corporate Advertising and Marketing Communications for General Electric.
Hu will join GE August 22 from General Motors, where she has served most recently as the Executive Director, Diversity and Growth Markets. At GE, Hu will report to Beth Comstock, Corporate Vice President of Communications. Hu replaces Richard Costello who will depart GE in September to begin a brand and research consultancy, with GE serving as one of his clients.
In her new position, Hu will be responsible for directing advertising, branding and marketing communications for GE. She is charged with developing strategies to strengthen and position the GE brand globally. Working closely with all of GE's business units, Hu will be responsible for managing consistency of the GE brand message and for driving leadership of GE's marketing communications function throughout the Company.

Hu has spent nearly six years with General Motors. As Executive Director of the diversity and growth markets area, Hu has been responsible for targeting GM's marketing efforts to key demographic groups. Prior to that she served as Executive Director in charge of GM's corporate advertising and retail programs where she played a key role in GM's 2001 "Keep America Rolling" campaign. She first joined GM as General Director of Advertising Resources directing GM/UAW and GM corporate advertising, sponsorships and retail programs.
Prior to joining GM, Hu was Senior Vice President of DMB&B in Detroit from 1992, responsible for developing brand strategies, with GM serving as a top account. In 1990, Hu served as Director of Client Services for Leo Burnett in Hong Kong. From 1983-87, Hu worked as an account executive and supervisor with DMB&B in New York. She began her career in the publishing industry in Boston.
Hu graduated cum laude from Harvard and received an M.B.A from Yale. She is currently on the Board of Directors of the American Advertising Federation, and is Chairman of the "Advertising Hall of Achievement Awards." In July 2002, she was named to the Automotive News list of "All Stars."
