Jakarta Basketball Enthusiasts Get the Chance to Meet the Indonesia Warriors in Person after Team's Win

February 07, 2012

JAKARTA, FEBRUARY 7, 2012 -- After winning the last game in Bandung against Vietnam's basketball team, Saigon Heat, the Indonesia Warriors will get a chance to greet their Jakarta fans directly in a session hosted at the @america American Cultural Center, February 7, sponsored by GE (General Electric) and the AirAsia Basketball League (ABL).

Indonesia Warriors' captain Ronny Gunawan, center Steven D. Thomas and coach John Todd Purves, share their strategies for success in the Meet & Greet event with local press and basketball enthusiasts, which is also attended by Stuart L. Dean, President and CEO of GE ASEAN, Mr. Kuhan Foo, CEO of the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League, and Mr. Ridi Djajakusuma, COO of the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League.

The Indonesia Warriors, previously known as the Satria Muda Britama, are the Indonesian representatives in this professional regional league. They are currently competing against 7 other teams from 6 different ASEAN countries in the 3rd season of the AirAsia ABL which started January 14 and will continue towards mid-May, until the semi-finals and finals throughout June 2012.

"GE is proud to take part in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League since its inception. We see the parallel in sports and our global initiative in helping countries build their healthcare infrastructure, keeping their citizens healthy, and also playing by the rules," Stu Dean said in the event.

"All over the world, GE and its innovation provide solutions to improve the quality of healthcare, making it more affordable and accessible. But we also encourage healthy lifestyle among our employees. By sponsoring youth outreach programs with the Indonesia Warriors such as this one, we hope that, through sports, we can inspire Indonesian young people to lead healthy lives full of worthwhile achievements," Stu added.

"We are proud to be a part of this program with GE, who has been a supporter since the beginning, as we strongly believe in the message GE's campaign in healthcare is delivering," said Kuhan Foo. "Basketball in itself is a high energy, high impact sport and the players in our league have to be able to keep up with playing at least one game a week, sometimes up to three for nearly six full months. Ronny, Steve and Coach Purves are great role models for this campaign as basketball is growing rapidly in the region, evident by the steady growth of our own league and its popularity is a great way to push this message through as our players are professional athletes who have to be at the peak of their fitness in order to perform in the league."

GE, AirAsia ABL and the Indonesia Warriors will conduct a free basketball coaching clinic around the end of March 2012 for Indonesian teenagers. The time and place for this event will be announced later -- please follow GE Indonesia at twitter @imajinesia or visit our site www.geasean.com.
