For Environmental Enhancements and Cost Savings
using Green Technology from General Electric
Bangkok, 27 September 2553 -- GE Thailand together with IRPC (Public) Co. Ltd and Gulf Electric Company Limited have implemented technologies in projects that have won GE's Ecomagination award by sustaining and reducing water use and energy impact on the environment in and around their facilities for the past five years.
GEPresident for Thailand and Laos, Mr. Pornlert Lattanan said that "Ecomagination is GE's corporate-wide sustainable business strategy. The program was created to address customer challenges such as the need for cleaner, more efficient sources of energy, reduced emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG), abundant sources of clean water and to improve water reuse for environmental sustainability, while at the same time increasing revenues from ecomagination products."
Lattanan continued, "Our employees, including Country Manager for Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore Ms Kanmanee Wattana-u-domsin, have embrassed this program by working with customers to ensure they are leveraging the benefits of Ecomagination and that those benefits are translated into profitable growth for our customers."
Lattanan noted that GE's investment in Ecomagination certified technologies and solutions continues to increase and in 2009 was estimated at $1.5 billion. GE is also a recipient of the benfits of Ecomagination technologies and has already achieve significant results in reducing GHG emissions and improving the energy efficiency of its operations, as well as reducing water consumption and implementing water reuse practices.
Chief Sustainability Officer and Ecomagination Director for GE Power & Water's Water & Process Technologies business, Jeff Fulgham stated that GE is leveraging the Ecomagination awards and engaging its customers as environmental partners in order to achieve sustainable corporate responsibility while demonstrating significant environmental and economical performance improvements. This enables our customers to strike a balance between today's environmental, industrial and sustainability challenges.
Mr. Fulgham added that GE and its customers had partnered to help transform and enhance efficiencies, enabling safe energy exploration, a reduction in costs and to manage and overcome challenges. "We're enabling our customers to succeed in an ever-evolving industry by supporting increased industrial innovation, productivity, environmental responsibility and community well-being," he said.
IRPC (Public) Co. Ltd President Dr Pailin Chuchottaworn said, "Innovation and a commitment to reducing environmental challenges and increasing sustainable green energy to the community are both stamps of the way we do business at IRPC. Partnering with GE Water for more than 10 years provided an excellent opportunity in the treatment of our process water."
"We managed to reduce water usage by 10 percent and improve water reuse, reduce GHG emissions by 1,300 tons and improve the energy efficiency of operations to over 10,500 gigajoules, which is equivalent to a 735 million baht saving in expenses. Last year alone, IRPC managed to save up to 432 million baht and this money has been used to aid the community through our "Care and Share" campaign. At IRPC we believe in a three-pronged approach so that business, the community and the environment should grow in the same direction in order that we may have a sustainable economy," Dr Pailin Said.
President of Gulf Electric Co. Ltd Sarath Ratanavadi said that Gulf, a major independent power producer, had been participating in GE's Ecomagination campaign for the past five years. "We have made significant improvements in reducing water usage by 5 million cubic meters and have improved water reuse by approximately 26,500 cubic meters, reduced toxic waste by 1,460 tons and have improved the energy efficiency of operations equivalent to an economy saving of 19 million baht," he said.
"At Gulf, we believe in fostering a bilateral relationship between business and the community and thus far we have been bringing innovative technologies to manage the use of natural resources such as water while at the same time reducing waste in order to sustain community welfare. For the past two years, our Nong Khae Cogeneration, Samut Prakarn Cogeneration, and the Nong Khae Cogeneration 2nd site have been working closely with GE to implement Ecomagination technologies and have successfully reduced wastewater and toxic waste by 19,460 cubic meters. We are confident that together we will be able to sustainably manage natural resources, the environment and our business."
