HOUSTON, TEXAS - September 25, 2006 :- GE's Oil & Gas business has secured the first order for its new PGT25+G4 high-speed power turbine module, with Alliance Pipeline Limited Partnership of Calgary, Alberta.
The first G4 turbine module will be coupled with the enhanced LM2500+G4 gas generator from GE Energy's aeroderivative engine business and will be installed at Alliance's Windfall Compressor Station in Whitecourt, Alberta, replacing an existing unit at the site.
Introduced in late 2005, the new power module is an upgrade of GE's well-proven PGT25+ technology and is specifically designed for applications across the oil and gas industry including large pipelines and onshore/offshore production facilities.
The power turbine for the Alliance project will be manufactured at GE Oil & Gas facilities in Florence, Italy while the gas generator will be manufactured at GE's plant in Cincinnati, Ohio. The package also will feature a Woodward control panel and five Woodward fuel metering valves, instead of three on the existing unit, to enable more accurate combustion tuning.
The equipment will be shipped in the second quarter of 2007, with installation scheduled for the second or third quarter of 2007.
The two-stage G4 turbine module is designed to achieve fuel combustion efficiencies greater than 40%, the highest thermal efficiency level in its power range. Operating at a speed of 6100 rpm, the power turbine is capable of directly driving a compressor without the need of a gear in most oil and gas applications.
At ISO conditions, the G4 power module offers an output of 34 megawatts, a 10% increase over the existing PGT25+. It also offers a significant increase in power output at high ambient temperatures; for example, at 120° F, the power increase is 20%.
The LM2500+G4 gas generator is a fourth generation, upgraded version of the LM2500+, designed with increased power capabilities. GE's LM2500 technology has been proven in more than 40 million hours of operation in industrial applications worldwide.

"All of the compression equipment in the Alliance mainline pipeline system has been provided by GE, and is covered under a Contractual Service Agreement."
Alliance Pipeline is a wholly owned pipeline system. Each day, the company transports more than 1.3 billion cubic feet of rich natural gas through its 3,719-kilometre pipeline system, starting in northeastern British Columbia and ending in the Chicago hub.
