KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA -- March 2, 2011 -- General Electric (NYSE:GE), an official sponsor of Jelajah 1Malaysia, announced that GE Healthcare will be providing use of its LOGIQ e, a compact ultrasound system for physician support of athletes competing in the 1011 km race that will take place from 8-13 March 2011.
The LOGIQ e was provided to the Jelajah 1Malaysia Team during the media launch today during which Dato' Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim, Minister of Information, Communications and Culture was present as guest of honour. LOGIQ e is fast and portable, and would be a great tool to help physicians diagnose athletes with suspected injuries."
The easy-to-use compact ultrasound system will be used by the official medical team throughout the race to help identify early signs of tendon and ligament injuries as well as other health markers that affect performance such as infection, bruising at the surface of the bone, or the mapping of blood flow. LOGIQ e offers the size, weight (less than 5kg) and portability of a laptop computer, together with the performance to match the much larger, console based ultrasound systems.
Dr Aston Ngai, official physician for Jelajah 1Malaysia comments, "Immediate and accurate diagnosis of injuries is important in competitive sports. It helps keep athlete's physical health in-check and allows for optimum performance during competitions." By having access to LOGIQ e, the medical support team is able to diagnose injuries at an early stage, accurately prescribe treatment, contain injury, and thus allow athletes to quickly return to the competition. This places Jelajah 1Malaysia at the forefront of sports healthcare.
