GE's Oil And Gas Group Completes Testing Of New An250 Axial Compressor

December 12, 2005

First Unit Set for Tangguh LNG Project in Indonesia

HOUSTON, TEXAS - December 12, 2005 : -- GE Energy recently completed successful testing of its new AN250 axial compressor, which is based on the proven technology of the existing AN200 compressor while offering a 20% increase in capacity, GE reported today at the 34th Turbomachinery Symposium.

The first AN250 compressor will be installed for one of the two refrigerant compressor trains GE is supplying for BP Tangguh LNG Indonesia's project in Bintuni Bay Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia. The plant will have an annual gas liquefaction capacity of at least seven million tons of LNG.

Designed to handle 220,000 m3/h of gas, GE's AN200 compressor has been applied for several LNG lines around the world that operate in the range of 3.8 million tons per year. The new AN250 machine has a design capacity of 249,000 m3/h and is capable of service in plants that operate in the range of 4.1 million tons per year.

GE has completed an intensive test period for the AN250. The entire compressor train was assembled on an outdoor test bed at GE's Florence, Italy facilities in the same configuration of the Tangguh plant, including the auxiliary equipment. The compressor was heavily instrumented with sensors, to measure the machine's mechanical and thermodynamic characteristics.

Data collected during these tests will be used to assess the operating limits of the AN250 compressor and to identify any areas where performance could be further improved. Preliminary results indicate that the new compressor met its performance targets during the tests and demonstrated efficiency one percent greater than the rate guaranteed for the Tangguh project.
