GE's New Generation of Portable X-Ray Detectors Cuts the Cord and Goes Wireless

April 17, 2012

Enhanced Series Makes Giant Strides to Improve Mobility and Simplify Digital Readiness for Field Radiographic Inspection

LEWISTOWN, PA.---April 17, 2012---GE's (NYSE: GE) Inspection Technologies product line, a GE Measurement & Control business, today announced two additions to its DXR series of portable X-ray detectors. The enhanced solution series demonstrates GE's continued investment in digital radiography, providing the oil and gas, power generation and general engineering sectors with wireless and battery operated technology solutions that support instant radiographic inspection and review across a wide range of field applications.

The new detectors, DXR250C-W and DXR250U-W, are designed to withstand the harshest industrial environments and can be wirelessly connected or tethered to a laptop computer. They are quickly deployed in some of the most challenging field conditions and provide easy access to otherwise hard-to-reach areas such as pipe racks.

"GE is committed to using the newest technology to provide the most versatile solutions for the widest range of inspection activities," said Martin Sauerschnig, GE product manager, radiography. "The expansion of the DXR series to include a wireless solution will facilitate in-field conversion from film to digital radiography by enabling shorter exposure times, instant image reviews and reduced shooting times. This series enhancement greatly increases user productivity while improving field safety."

The DXR250C-W detector, which has an 8-by-8-inch imager, has been developed specifically for industrial inspection applications, while the DXR250U-W detector, with its 16-by-16-inch imager, has been further optimized and packaged to meet industrial needs.

The DXR250C-W also can be tethered with mains supply or battery-connected with a data cable if necessary to suit different inspection set-ups. When used with GE's Rhythm DR acquisition software, a premium image can be displayed in real time to assess corrosion/erosion or identify flaws in welds. Additionally, reports can be printed on-site using Rhythm Report or DICONDE-compliant images can be transmitted to a remote Rhythm Review station for further analysis. All data can be stored using Rhythm Archive.

Engineered for ease of operation, the new detectors are shock-protected, sealed to IP65 standard and available with an optional hard cover for additional ruggedness. Additionally, GE offers a full set of industrial accessories including power supply, dongle, tether cable sets, transport cases and filters to optimize performance for tough field applications.

GE's Inspection Technologies business offers a full range of Industrial radiographic equipment and techniques. For more information, please visit http://www.ge-mcs.com/en/radiography-x-ray.html.
