GE's F-Class Technology Selected for Two New Power Plants in Italy

January 14, 2003

BELFORT, FRANCE (January 14, 2003) --- GE Power Systems is supplying four Frame 9FA gas turbines to Edison Termoelettrica S.p.A. of Milan, a subsidiary of Edison S.p.A., for two power plants in Italy.
Two of the gas turbines will be used by Caffaro Energia S.r.l., a wholly owned subsidiary of Edison S.p.A., for a power plant at Torviscosa in the Udine province, Friuli region of northeastern Italy. The other two units will be used for a second power plant located at Altomonte in the Cosenza province, Calabria region of southern Italy.
The four 9FAs, each rated at more than 250 megawatts, will be fueled by natural gas and will be used in combined cycle, baseload operation. The two new plants each will produce approximately 760 megawatts of power for the Italian grid when they enter combined cycle service, which is expected to be the second quarter of 2005.
The 9FA gas turbines were manufactured at GE Power Systems' facility in Belfort, France, while the four generators were built in GE's Schenectady, New York plant. Installation of all four units at the plant sites is scheduled to start in June 2003.
In addition to supplying the four gas turbine-generators, GE also will provide technical direction of installation and training. To date, 129 Frame 9FAs have been installed, ordered or committed for projects around the world, including 75 in Europe. GE's installed fleet of F technology gas turbines is approaching seven million hours of operation in power plants worldwide.
