GE's Board Has Elected Marijn E. Dekkers, Chairman, Bayer, AG

Former GE scientist with broad global experience

FAIRFIELD, Conn.--12 June 2012-- The Board of Directors of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE) has elected Marijn E. Dekkers, chairman of the board of management of Bayer, AG, as a GE director. He was elected by the GE Board at its meeting on June 8, 2012.

"Marijn Dekkers returns to GE with a keen global perspective sharpened by deep experience in science and business in the US and around the world," said GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt. Dekkers is an independent director under the New York Stock Exchange listing standards and GE's independence guidelines. Dekkers' election brings GE's board to 17 members, 15 of whom are independent.

Bayer, headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany, is a global healthcare, crop science and material science company with more than 110,000 employees. In addition to his responsibilities at Bayer, Dekkers, 54, is vice president, German Chemical Industry Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of German Industry. He was previously president and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific and chief operating officer of Thermo Electron. He began his professional career in 1985 as a GE scientist at GE's corporate research center in Niskayuna, New York. At GE, he wrote 40 scientific articles and authored 30 patents.

Dekkers holds a B.SC. from the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands) in chemistry and an M.S. and a Ph.D. from the University of Eindhoven (Netherlands) in chemical engineering.
