March 18, 2004

Kuwait, March 18, 2004: An audience of more than 150 people including children and adults from the Sulaibikhit Center for the Elderly, Orphaned Children and Physically and Mentally Handicapped and their families enjoyed a rock and roll performance by Circus Guy's Rock 'n' Roll Revue, an event organised by the United States Embassy in Kuwait in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and General Electric (GE) in the Middle East. Sheikh Du'aij Khalifa Al Malek Al-Sabah, Undersecretary, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour and the US Charges d'Affaires, Frank Urbancic, were among the guests attending the festivities.

"It is extremely pleasing to see institutions and companies working hand in hand to give something back to the community, especially to those with special needs - this clearly demonstrates their commitment and support to our government efforts focusing on the community's social welfare. Special needs children and adults were delighted by the entertaining cultural experience, giving them an evening to remember," said Sheikh Du'ai Al Malek Al Sabah, Undersecretary, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.

The Circus Guy's Rock 'n' Roll Revue concert featured a mix of Rock and Arabic-inspired music performed by the six-member band, two of whose musicians are American-born Arabs. The group's unique style of music has been enjoyed by music-lovers around the world, including the Middle East, were the band has performed in several countries.

"GE's is committed to contributing to the well-being of the community we live and work in by being actively involved in community-related activities which help those in need - it gives us great pride to extend GE's worldwide heritage of social responsibility to include the Middle East," said Abdullah Taibah, Corporate Regional Executive for GE in the Middle East.

"It's rewarding to see what a difference we can make by lending our support in various ways. By rolling out different programmes across the Middle East, including volunteer activities where staff put some of their time aside for a worthy cause or through sponsorships or even valuable student work experience, GE hopes to make a difference to those around us," added Taibah.
