GEH Announces the First North American Implementation of its Latest Chemical Decontamination Solution

July 26, 2016

WILMINGTON, North Carolina-July 26, 2016-GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) today announced the first North American implementation of the newest chemical decontamination solution which was utilized to successfully decontaminate and mitigate stress corrosion cracking in portions of a nuclear power plant’s recirculation piping.

“By removing contamination build up and mitigating the stress corrosion cracking of stainless steel piping and components, this innovative solution addresses two main challenges that boiling water reactor plant operators face today,” said Lance Hall, Executive Vice President of Nuclear Fuels and Services, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

Built upon proven Low Temperature NobleChem™ technology, GEH implemented an enhanced solution developed by its alliance partner Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy to decontaminate and mitigate the plant’s reactor recirculation systems and decontaminate the reactor water cleanup system.

Compared to other processes in the industry, this patented solution provides a significant reduction in secondary waste generation and further reduces base metal corrosion.
