May 17, 2012

Collaboration with Da Nang Youth Union and Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DONRE) is aimed at improving the environment and raising awareness of conservation issues in the local community.

DANANG CITY, VIETNAM -- May 17, 2012 - Coming hard on the heels of previous successful volunteer programs across the country such as GE Foundation Scholarship and GE Movie Night, GE joined forces with DONRE and the Youth Union on May 16th to clean up Da Nang's beach in order to support the city's campaign of raising public awareness of conservation issues.

"The campaign aims to raise public awareness of environmental issues and also to take practical actions to improve our immediate surrounds," said Mr. Dang Quang Vinh, Vice Manager, Da Nang Department of Environment Protection. "We appreciate the great support from GE in making this program a successful one. We are determined to raise awareness among the youth of Da Nang and encourage them to do their bit for society by taking care of the environment."

Over 100 volunteers from the Youth Union along with around 70 GE employees were involved in the clean-up on Man Thai beach, and the program attracted great interest from local residents, especially among youngsters. Not only did the clean up enhance community solidarity, it also squared with the overall goal of improving the quality of life for local residents.

"As a company that makes environmental protection a top priority, we strongly support this campaign," shared Ms. Nguyen My Lan, CEO of GE Vietnam. "The social message of joining hands to protect the environment is a particularly strong one. We hope that Da Nang will have more meaningful activities such as this in future."
