GE Vice Chairman to Visit Myanmar

April 05, 2012

Yangon, Myanmar -- 05 April 2012--- General Electric (NYSE: GE) Vice Chairman, John G. Rice will visit Myanmar today to meet with government officials and the business community, and to explore opportunities for infrastructure development as the long isolated country tackles the challenges of political and economic change.

Myanmar's recent reforms have brought with them significant potential for social and economic growth. GE entered Myanmar's healthcare market in February 2012 with the appointment of Sea Lion Co Ltd as the national dealer for its products and services.

"We are encouraged with the shift in the country's policies and are evaluating how we can play a constructive role in Myanmar's development," Rice said.

GE officials have been visiting Myanmar since late last year for exploratory meetings with the government, community and business leaders. "We are impressed with the changes occurring in Myanmar and its increasing engagement with the rest of the world," said Stuart Dean, GE CEO for ASEAN, (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations). "GE will continue exploring possibilities for expanding our operations here as progress continues."

Myanmar is a resource-rich developing country strategically located between China and India and home to 60 million people of different ethnicities. Recent developments in its political environment and reforms of its macroeconomic policies can become important drivers for economic growth and development in the country.
