GE to unveil new integrated solution to promote efficiencies in petrochemical sector at 10th SABIC Technical & Innovation Meeting

November 11, 2012

  • New technology can help to improve profitability, uptime and quality for ethylene manufacturers in the region
  • GE's diverse and technically advanced product line addresses customer challenges in power generation and measurement & control
  • Underlines commitment of GE to innovate localized technologies for regional requirements

Jubail, Saudi Arabia, November 12, 2012: GE (NYSE: GE) is unveiling an advanced solution designed to enhance the operational efficiencies of the petrochemical sector at the 10th SABIC Technical & Innovation Meeting (STIM-10) to be held from November 11 to 14, 2012 at Al Jubail Industrial City.

Bringing together key players in asset management, electrical & control systems, fertilizers & chemicals, construction, safety, health & environment, and quality assurance, STIM-10 is an industry-focused event that highlights the emerging trends in the sector. It serves as a strong networking platform to exchange best practices and discuss potential partnerships for driving the sustainable growth of the Kingdom's petrochemical sector.

Rami Qasem, CEO, GE Oil & Gas for MENAT, said: "With over 80 years of operations in the Kingdom, GE is committed to partner in the sustained growth of the petrochemical sector by creating innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiencies. SABIC is a long-term partner of GE, and through our participation in STIM-10, we are reiterating our focus on promoting knowledge transfer and developing technologies that address local requirements."

Underlining the growing application of ethylene in the plastic industry, GE is presenting an integrated solution that is designed to help improve profitability, uptime and quality for ethylene producers. GE has a diverse and technically advanced product line that addresses the key challenges faced by its customers in power generation, measurement & control, rotating equipment, valves, transmission & distribution of power and water usage.

At STIM-10, GE's professionals will also host a keynote presentation on its new integrated solution. With the new technology, ethylene producers stand to gain significant savings by strengthening operational efficiencies.

GE's solution tracks the build-up of fouling deposits on charge gas compressors in ethylene manufacturing lines. These deposits can greatly reduce manufacturing efficiency or force unplanned shutdown of the plant production if left to grow unchecked.

The new technology, developed at the GE Global Research Center, uses advanced fiber optic sensor technology enabling plant managers to operate the unit more smoothly and for a longer time even in the presence of wide fluctuations in production requirements. It also enables higher flexibility in feedstock selection.

GE Oil & Gas, a world leader in advanced technology equipment and services for all segments of the oil & gas industry, has established a strong footprint in Saudi Arabia in line with its core competencies that are a perfect match for the Kingdom's requirements. Among the key areas of service offered by GE Oil & Gas in the Kingdom are support for drilling and production, LNG, pipelines and storage for industrial power generation, refining and petrochemicals.
