ATLANTA, GEORGIA (April 11, 2003) --- GE Power Systems will supply two gas turbines, a steam turbine, and additional equipment and services to Unión Eléctrica de Canarias S.A.U., a wholly owned subsidiary of Endesa, Spain's largest electric utility. The equipment will be installed at a combined-cycle power plant in Granadilla, Tenerife, Canary Islands.
GE will provide two Frame 6FA gas turbines and a steam turbine for the combined-cycle plant, which will have an output of nearly 220 megawatts. The facility is scheduled to enter commercial operation in three phases: gas turbine #1 in October 2003; gas turbine #2 in June 2004 and the steam cycle in June 2005.
The Frame 6FA gas turbines will be manufactured in GE's facility in Belfort, France while the SC 4 steam turbine will be manufactured in GE's steam turbine plant in Schenectady, NY.
The scope of GE's contract also includes the generators, gas turbine auxiliaries, heat recovery steam generators, plant distributed control system, technical advisory services during erection and commissioning, and training.
Tecnicas Reunidas, S.A., GE's Spanish consortium partner in this project, will design and supply the balance-of-plant equipment and will provide civil works, erection and commissioning of the plant at the site.
The Frame 6FA gas turbine is the mid-sized member of GE's fleet of F technology machines, which has achieved 7.3 million hours of commercial service worldwide. To date, 60 GE Frame 6FA gas turbines have been ordered or installed for projects around the world, including 31 in Europe.
