GE - Appliances & Lighting Leads Smart Grid Seminar Series at Popular Tradeshow

PCBC 2010

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Imagine if your power company offered lower electricity rates at certain times of day, similar to what's offered by most cell phone companies. Now, imagine having smart appliances and other devices in the home that can help you save money by automatically adjusting electricity consumption in response to pricing signals from the utility.

Helping consumers and industry professionals understand the importance and possibility of a new "Smart Grid" is the focus of a special seminar series to be hosted during PCBC 2010 in San Francisco.

The Smart Energy Series seminar, to be held Wednesday, June 9 at the Exhibitorium at the Moscone Center South Exhibit Floor, features leaders from energy and Smart Grid technology and will provide insight into how a new, updated energy grid will transform how we work, travel, and enjoy the luxuries of modern living. The Smart Energy Series is sponsored by PCBC and GE.

The three 45-minute seminar sessions are:

The Story of Smart Grid: Why is it Significant and What are the Implications
1:00 - 1:45 p.m.
Speakers: San Diego Gas & Electric, GE Energy

Smart Grid and the New Connected Home
2:00 - 2:45 p.m.
Speakers: Intel, GE - Appliances & Lighting

Smart Homes: Residential Renewable Energy
3:00 - 3:45 p.m.
Speakers: California Energy Commission

According to Mike Beyerle, Innovation Manager with GE -- Appliances & Lighting, the time to begin investing in our nation's energy infrastructure is now. "Maintaining our nation's infrastructure often isn't exciting, but it is necessary. Electricity is the energy source that feeds much of our commerce. Imagine a business not being able to expand or someone not being able to open a store for want of access to electricity," Beyerle says. "We don't have the problem today, but without investment in our nation's grid, we could ultimately face that limitation. Our nation has a focus on energy, and energy efficiency, a Smarter Grid can help us to squeeze more out of our existing infrastructure, keeping costs lower for all of us."

Admission to the seminar is free; however, an exhibit pass is required. Passes are available at www.pcbc.com. RSVPs to attend the seminar are requested and can be made by contacting Allison Gatta, PR manager with GE - Appliances & Lighting, at 502-452-7184 or by emailing her at [email protected].

In addition to serving as sponsor for the seminar, GE - Appliances & Lighting will have an exhibit booth at the event at which the company will showcase some of its newest products. Among the products that will be on display are:

GE Profile™ Frontload Steam Washer: This new washer features an overnight cycle that allows consumers to clean clothes and gets them ready to wear by morning --- right out of the washer. It is the first unit in the industry with the ability to wash small loads* on an overnight cycle.

GE Advantium Oven: In 2010, GE is turning up the heat on its four-oven-in-one cooking technology with brand new above-the-cooktop (ATC) offerings for the GE Café and Monogram lines. Speedcook provides consistent results up to eight times faster than a conventional oven, without the need to preheat.

GE - Appliances & Lighting will be located at booth 1517 in the South Hall of the Moscone Center. Media who would like a private tour of the new GE appliance and lighting products are encouraged to contact Allison Gatta, PR manager with GE - Appliances & Lighting, at 502-452-7184 or by emailing her at [email protected].
