March 28, 2003

HOUSTON, TEXAS (March 28, 2003) --- GE Aero Energy Products (GE AEP), a business unit of GE Power Systems, will supply one LM6000 Sprintâ„¢ gas turbine-generator package to Brownsville Public Utilities Board of Brownsville, Texas. The LM6000 will be used as a peaking unit to power to the City of Brownsville.
The 45-megawatt LM6000 gas turbine-generator unit, packaged by GE at its Oslo, Norway facility, will be installed at the Silas Ray Power Plant in Brownsville.
"The LM6000 is the first modern GE unit slated for installation at the Silas Ray Power Plant. Its design features allow us to meet our need for dispatch flexibility and to meet our rapidly growing peak capacity," said Fernando Saenz, director of Power Supply for the Brownsville Public Utilities Board.
The gas turbine-generator package shipped in December of 2002, and is expected to begin commercial operation in late 2004. Gas will serve as the primary fuel.
