GE Strengthens Projects Team For London 2012 Olympic Games

February 16, 2009

GE expands its core 2012 sales team to five people

GE strengthens its projects team for the London 2012 Olympic Games with two new hires. The expanded team is responsible for identifying and supporting the significant business development opportunities associated with London 2012. GE has worked with former host cities to provide technologies and solutions for venues and city infrastructure. GE's ecomagination range of environmental technologies could help to make the London Games the greenest ever and also deliver lasting sustainable benefits for the people of London and surrounding areas.

Mark Richards, previously Project Manager for Southern Electric, has joined GE as Project Manager with the dedicated London 2012 team. His role will be to give clients relevant technical support and coordinate with the full range of GE businesses to maximize business opportunities. As new contracts are signed, Mark will be responsible for coordinating major London 2012 projects and will liaise with the wider GE team of project managers to ensure milestones and performance targets are met.

Meanwhile, David Clarkson has joined GE as Projects and Proposals Administrator. His role is to provide general support to the team, compiling documents and presentations for clients, managing and updating the projects database and contributing data to management reports for GE business leaders. He is also the primary researcher for the London Thames Gateway project. David joined from a similar role with Thermal Energy Construction and Clarkson Associates.

These latest hires bring the core 2012 sales team to five people. The team is led by Tony Gale, a 13-year GE veteran, with a strong track record in sales and experience of applying GE technologies across over 400 infrastructure projects in Beijing. For Beijing 2008, GE successfully developed a new cross-business sales approach designed to manage the complex requirements of 'mega event' projects like the Olympic Games.

Tony Gale, General Manager, said: "We believe the Olympic Games will be a unique opportunity for London to showcase the latest technology, new ideas and innovations to help it retain its status as a world-class city. GE is committed to helping to create the infrastructure that will deliver a sustainable legacy for central and Greater London particularly in areas such as transport infrastructure (London Underground, Crossrail and airports), London Thames Gateway as well as Olympic Games infrastructure. We are determined to contribute to this process and with our enlarged team in place, we are raring to go in 2009."

Tony Gale continued: "Our initial focus for London is around the £9Bn public investment through the ODA and the £2Bn private investment (through LOCOG) to construct the Olympic Games facilities and stage the Games. GE is a preferred supplier to the organising committee across many product and service categories and given our previous experience with other host cities, we have much technical expertise to offer."

The London 2012 team will play a pivotal role in supporting GE's business growth plans in the UK.
