GE Sowwah Square office wins 'Best Corporate Office Space' award at 2013 Middle East Interior Design Competition

July 07, 2013

Abu Dhabi, UAE; July 8, 2013: The eco-friendly and contemporary office of GE (NYSE: GE) in Sowwah Square, Abu Dhabi, has been adjudged as the 'Best Corporate Office Space' at the 2013 Middle East Interior Design competition.

Centrally located in the commercial business district development and a central component of Al Maryah Island, Mubadala Real Estate & Hospitality's flagship development, the GE office uses recycled, renewable and sustainable materials in its design, apart from the company's ecomagination-certified products.

The 'Best Corporate Office Space' honor recognizes the new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of interior spaces in the Middle East region.

Nabil Habayeb, GE's President & Chief Executive Officer for the Middle East, North Africa & Turkey, said: "The award underlines our commitment to create innovative office spaces with a focus on sustainability. The office is a true complement to Abu Dhabi's vision to create sustainable cities of the future, and serves as a model on how elegant design can be integrated effectively with green features, adding to the quality of the workplace."

Spread over 3,800 sq m (40,899 sq ft) across two levels in Sowwah Square, the office integrates sustainable design leading to LEED Environmental Pre-certification, a rating that reflects the environment-friendliness of the development. Nearly 78 percent of the office follows an open plan, aimed at further enhancing employee welfare.

With a focus on enhancing energy efficiency, the office is aesthetically designed to roll out one of the best work environments for employees. All the products used in the design have been chosen for their recycled content, sustainability and minimal impact on climate change. All appliances and lighting are from GE's own portfolio, and have been selected for their environmental friendliness.

GE has a history of over 80 years of presence in the region, and has its regional headquarters in Dubai. In addition to long-term partnerships in the energy and oil & gas sector, GE partners with Abu Dhabi in supporting a significant share of its roadway lighting, as well as in the healthcare, aviation and commercial finance sectors.

Most recently, GE was ranked as among the world's 100 most sustainable companies for its commendable efforts in driving energy and water use efficiency, by Canadian firm Corporate Knights.
