GE Silicones Introduces New Multi-component Cure System For TUFEL II Elastomers Line; Regulates cure speed andshelf life to match specific application criteria

October 21, 2002

WATERFORD, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 2002--GE Silicones is introducing a new multi-component cure system for its premier TUFEL(TM) II elastomers line for healthcare extrusion.
The system consists of the new IN-7 inhibitor masterbatch and new CA-7 platinum catalyst masterbatch. This two-part system provides customers using TUFEL II base elastomers the opportunity to balance product cure speed and shelf life to accommodate specific equipment requirements and extrusion profile configurations.
"This new multi-component cure system provides fabricators with increased flexibility when extruding our TUFEL II elastomers," notes Eric Bishop, GE Silicones Healthcare Industry Manager. "Both components of the system can now be employed separately by customers, to achieve an effective balance of cure speed and shelf life. This allows customers to optimize their manufacturing processes for thick wall tubing."
Both IN-7 inhibitor and CA-7 masterbatch from GE Silicones are supplied in quantities of seven pounds, sufficient to mix with 1,000 pounds of TUFEL II base silicone elastomer.
Specific formulations are provided in the product data sheet, which can be accessed online at www.Healthcare-Silicones.com. Use of IN-7 inhibitor and CA-7 masterbatch with TUFEL II bases maintains the original FDA and USP Class VI compliance status of these elastomer bases, if used in accordance with information on the product data sheet.
TUFEL II elastomers from GE Silicones are translucent addition-cure products with high tear strength, fast cure, and low volatility. The TUFEL II elastomer line includes five products ranging from 30 to 70 in durometer. All TUFEL II elastomers are FDA and Class VI compliant.
