GE Silicones Introduces New FDA Compliant, Low Durometer Elastomer for Cushioning

May 31, 2002

WATERFORD, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2002--GE Silicones today announced the introduction of the Company's softest liquid injection moldable rubber, LSR2005 elastomer.
New LSR2005 elastomer is a silicone material with gel-like consistency for use in cushioning and soft touch applications ranging from shoe insoles and external prostheses to pad printing and office machine rollers.
"LSR2005 is a liquid elastomer with a unique combination of performance and processing benefits," notes Eric Bishop, GE Silicones Healthcare Industry Manager. "With a Shore A of 57 and Die B tear of 40ppi, LSR2005 can provide the softness desired for many cushioning and prosthetic applications and has been found to feel like skin, dry to the touch - not oily."
LSR2005 liquid silicone is an FDA compliant, low modulus, translucent, two-component rubber offering a convenient 1:1 mix ratio with a high application rate and easy release from molds, and the productivity of a liquid injection moldable rubber. Cure time is rapid, generally 10 to 40 seconds @ 300-400(degree) F depending upon part size, configuration, and molding temperature.
New LSR2005 elastomer is based on a well-known family of GE Silicones products formulated for use in liquid injection molding. This new product will join the comprehensive line of LIM/LSR elastomers available from GE @ www.geelastomers.com.
GE Silicones, an operating division of GE Specialty Materials, is a global manufacturer of silicone products, with its headquarters in Waterford, NY. It has 3,500 employees and manufactures over 4,000 products for the automotive, aviation, consumer, electronics, healthcare and personal care industries.
