WATERFORD, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2003--
New LIM(R) 6041 Elastomer with Barium Sulfate Offers Radio-Opacity
GE Silicones is announcing two new product developments for use in the healthcare industry at the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West Show at Booth #3515, February 19-21 in Anaheim, Calif. Two of the newest GE Silicones high performance liquid elastomers, self-bonding LIM8040 and low durometer LSR2005, have met the requirements of USP Class VI testing. In addition, GE Silicones is introducing a new liquid elastomer, LIM6041, formulated with barium sulfate for use in liquid injection molding applications where opacity to x-rays is desired. LIM6041 elastomer also meets the requirements of USP Class VI.
"Meeting the requirements of USP Class VI testing allows healthcare customers to consider LIM8040, LSR2005 and LIM6041 for healthcare applications requiring primerless adhesion, external cushioning or radio-opacity," points out Eric Bishop, GE Silicones Healthcare Industry Manager.
LIM8040 liquid silicone elastomer is a 2-component liquid injection molding silicone offering primerless adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including metals and many engineering plastics, making it a suitable material for 2-shot or insert over-molding applications. LSR2005 liquid silicone elastomer has a gel-like consistency and is formulated for use in applications requiring cushioning properties in combination with the high performance properties of silicone.
LSR2005 combines the softness desired for many cushioning and prosthetic applications with the productivity of a liquid injection moldable rubber.
LIM6041 is a unique addition to the GE Silicones liquid elastomer portfolio. Based on the widely used LIM6040 elastomer from GE, new LIM6041 offers the same benefits of high tear strength and rapid processing and the addition of barium sulfate may make it suitable for use in applications where radio-opacity is desired. Parts molded from LIM6041 have been found to be detectable on x-ray film images.
