- 34 devices to be supplied including Bahrain's first of its kind PET scan to equip the hospital's Radiology Department
Dubai, UAE; January 27, 2011: GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of General Electric Company (GE), has signed a contract worth AED 32 million with the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUG) in Bahrain to provide and install advanced radiology equipment including the Kingdom's first of its kind PET scan device. The agreement also covers technical support and training for doctors and technicians at the hospital for a period of seven years.
Bahrain's Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa signed the contract with Abdul Rahman Ali Al Wazzan, Director, General Medical Intercol, the representative of GE Healthcare in Bahrain.
Dr Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said: "We, at King Hamad University Hospital, are very pleased and thrilled over this partnership with such a reputable company that has vast experience in manufacturing medical equipment for radiology departments. We hope this partnership will contribute to providing excellent and distinguished therapeutic services at KHUG, and it will be an added value for healthcare in the Kingdom of Bahrain."
Brigadier Dr Salman Bin Ateyatalla Al Khalifa, Commander of KHUG, added: "The contract with GE will be a launch pad for a strategic partnership that will contribute to providing excellent care and health series at KHUG. It will also add to the hospital's excellence and distinction in the field of medical research and studies."
As per the contract won by GE for meeting all technical specifications and warranty requirements, the company will provide 21 different types of medical equipment, totaling 34 devices. The partnership is envisaged to position KHUG as a distinguished academic institution in the region, and drive the optimum utilization of healthcare resources in the Kingdom.

GE Healthcare will fully equip the hospital's Radiology Department with the advanced diagnostic equipment as per the contract by July 2011.
