April 30, 2005

GE to be company with largest presence in DIC

Dubai, April 30, 2005: GE, the global technology, media and financial services company, today announced that it will establish its new Middle East and Africa headquarters at Dubai Internet City (DIC). GE's move allows the diversified technology products and services provider to benefit from DIC's world-class infrastructure and environment and is part of its plans to expand its operations in the region.

Under an agreement signed by Ahmed Bin Byat, Director General of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone and Nabil Habayeb, GE's President and CEO for the Middle East and Africa region, GE's dedicated facility, currently under development, will cover 65,000 square feet of space. When its new facility is completed, GE will be the company with the largest presence in Dubai Internet City.

GE's facility, which will be operational by May 2006, will house more than 250 employees representing the company's different businesses in the region. These businesses include GE Energy, GE Transportation, GE Advanced Materials, GE Infrastructure, particularly its water and security divisions, in addition to GE Consumer & Industrial - Appliances and GE Commercial Finance - Aviation Services.

Nabil Habayeb explained GE's move to this strategic location as part of the company's commitment to the region's development. "By establishing our regional headquarters at DIC we are taking a significant step towards implementing our growth strategy for the region. The location of the DIC facility and its advanced infrastructure will better position us to achieve our aggressive growth targets. This new development is consistent with GE's record of playing a key role in advancing the region's infrastructure for over 70 years."

Mr. Habayeb further confirmed that GE would continue to expand its operations in Abu Dhabi and Qatar, in addition to other key locations in the region in the near term.

"We are delighted to welcome GE to the DIC community. We believe that DIC is an ideal location for multinationals such as GE to base their headquarters as it meets their needs for state-of-the-art telecommunication and IT systems in a rich and productive environment. We are confident that we can provide the high-quality support and infrastructure to provide the optimal base for GE's regional headquarters for many years to come. We look forward to strengthening our relationship with GE and providing the platform that will enable GE to meet its growth targets for the region," added Bin Byat.

GE has been active in the Gulf since 1933. Its activities in the region are conducted through direct presence, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and a wide network of distributors. GE has completed strategic projects in various hi-tech industrial sectors, defence-related contracts and major infrastructure developments.
