September 09, 2003

Dubai, September 9, 2003: -- Diversified technology, manufacturing and services company General Electric (GE) is focusing its efforts on being involved in the rapid development taking place in the Middle East. GE, which generated annual sales in excess of US$2 billion in 2002, sees several of the region's industry sectors including energy, healthcare, construction and oil and gas as opportunities for the company's sustained growth in the Middle East.

This was stated by Nani Beccalli, President and CEO of GE Europe, Middle East and Africa at the first "GE Day" in the Middle East, which took place in Doha and showcased the company's diverse operations in the region. GE's innovative new corporate campaign "GE - Imagination at Work" was also launched at the customer event which was attended by more than 200 of its key clients and partners from across the region, in addition to government officials and diplomats, including the U.S. and Italian Ambassadors to Qatar.

Introducing the new campaign at the event, Nani Beccalli, said the Middle East played an integral role in the company's worldwide operations and was a region with immense growth potential.

"Imagination at Work is a reflection of the new GE. We wanted to create an identity that highlights our breakthrough products and services, and the diversity and leading edge technology that these embody. The campaign is designed to tap into the creative spirit and can-do attitude of GE people to offer technologies and services that make a difference to customers," Mr Beccalli said.

"The entire Middle East region holds tremendous business potential for GE and is fast becoming a focal point for business development," said Abdullah Taibah, Corporate Regional Executive, GE Middle East.

"During GE Day our customers are able to see first-hand the wide range of GE businesses present in the Middle East region and can gain a deeper understanding of the products and services that we offer," said Taibah.

With five "worlds" set up in a historical walkway, GE showcased the scope of technology products and services, which are available to customers in the region through its various businesses. GE's culture of innovation, which dates back to 1892, was also highlighted through its timeline of breakthroughs.

Since 1933, GE has maintained its position as a leader in technology and customer service through its diversified activities in the Middle East market, serving a broad range of sectors including energy, aviation, healthcare, consumer goods and construction through its key business units. GE considers the Middle East market a major contributor to its sustained growth and sees several exciting growth opportunities in a number of key sectors, including power generation, where the energy demands of countries such as Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are promising.

With regional headquarters in Dubai and Riyadh and a network of offices across the GCC and Levant, GE has established a commanding presence in the Middle East and has built an extensive client base. GE, which employs more than 1,000 people in the region, has also invested in numerous joint venture enterprises and its own facilities in key markets. The company is committed to recruiting and training employees from the local markets where it operates.

"GE is a global company with a local face. Through the activities of all of our businesses across the region, we have been an integral partner in the development of the Middle East for more than seven decades," said Taibah.

GE has been active in the Gulf since 1933. Its activities in the region are conducted through direct presence, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and a wide network of distributors. GE has completed strategic projects in various hi-tech industrial sectors, defence-related contracts and major infrastructure developments.
