GE Security's Launch of Advanced Residential Intercom and Audio System Integration Sets Stage for Whole-House Control System

GE Security's SmartCom Intercom and Entertainment Solution to Offer Control of Security, HVAC, Other Home Systems -- Now Available for Virtually Any New-Home Building Budget

BRADENTON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE Security, Inc., a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of the General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), today announced the launch of SmartCom, a residential intercom and entertainment system that seamlessly blends multi-room audio and intercom capabilities into an easy to install and use, integrated system based on the Smart ConnectionCenter. SmartCom's expandable design will allow it to deliver additional whole-house control features for security, heating and cooling, and other systems.

SmartCom is easy to wire and install using CAT5 cables and standard double electrical box-size trim rings. SmartCom is fully integrated with GE Security's Smart ConnectionCenter, which drives the intercom and audio functions. For the homeowner, SmartCom is user-friendly, intuitive, and features a unique graphical LCD screen that allows the system to display custom room titles and source names. It is also designed to unobtrusively complement a wide range of decorating schemes and is priced to fit into virtually any new home budget.

Currently, GE's SmartCom intercom system integrates with whole house audio to automatically mute music for intercom calls. Other key features include:

  • Fully programmable LCD Screen
  • Private room-to-room calling with hands-free answering
  • "Listen/Monitor" mode button
  • "Do Not Disturb" button
  • Center push-to-talk dial that also selects rooms for private calls
  • Whole-house audio controls for up to four sources, such as MP3, radio, CD, DVD, etc.

SmartCom represents the latest in a long line of customizable, integrated solutions from GE Security.
