Underlines commitment of GE to be a long-term partner in the progress of the Kingdom
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; November 13, 2012: GE (NYSE: GE) has underlined its commitment to promote human capacity building and skills transfer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by hosting a special 'GE Day' at the King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). Focused on strengthening the leadership abilities of the students and faculty and to encourage a culture of innovation and research, the GE Day featured a series of lectures by GE's leaders in Finance, Leadership, Sales & Commercial, Engineering, Quality & 6 Sigma and GE Leadership Programs.
Hisham Al-Bahkali, GE's President & CEO for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, said: "We thank the management of the King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals for hosting and supporting the event. At GE Day, Al-Bahkali provided the participants with an introduction and brief of GE in Saudi Arabia, taking them through the 80-year heritage of the company in the Kingdom and its extensive partnerships in the energy, oil & gas, aviation and healthcare sectors. This was followed by a presentation on Leadership by Dr Azeez Mohammed, General Manager, Power Generation Services -- GE Power & Water Middle East & Africa.
Other discussions at GE Day included: Field Engineer Seminar (by David Talmage, Service Product line Manager, GE Power & Water - Middle East & Africa); Lean 6 Sigma Seminar (Taher Abujoudeh, Master Black Belt, GE Power & Water - Middle East & Africa); Sales & Commercial Seminar (Raafat Sindi, Sales Executive Turbo Machinery, GE Oil & Gas -- Saudi Arabia & North Gulf); GE Leadership Programs (Joe Chalouhi, Organizational & Talent Development Leader - GE Global Operations - Middle East, North Africa & Turkey); and World of Finance (Khozema Shipchandler, Chief Financial Officer, GE Global Operations - Middle East, North Africa & Turkey). The interactive session concluded with a Q&A addressed by Bahkali.
Recently, GE established a Technical Academy in partnership with Technical & Vocational Training Corporation to grow the Saudi technical talent pool. GE also has a robust Saudization plan backed by comprehensive training programs for young nationals. Central to GE's approach for the Kingdom is a commitment to empower the national workforce. This includes focused training programmes for professionals, having already trained over 3,000 Saudi professionals in the healthcare, energy and aviation sectors, as well as fostering knowledge transfer, building R&D capabilities and promoting innovation.
