GE Rail took part in "Russian Machine Building-2004", Russia's largest railway show that was arranged in Scherbinka, Moscow Oblast, on June 29-30, 2004. It is the first Russian show, in which GE Rail participated as an exhibitor and speaker.
The two-day show encompassed a science conference and an equipment exhibition. GE Rail participated in both the events. The company's presentation at the conference given by Vladimir Rutkas focused on the economic benefits of the GE Locomotive Modernization program for OAO Russian Railways. The conference attendants were very excited with the speech and later, during the show, followed-up with requesting additional information from GE staff.
At the exhibition GE presented a stand introducing the company and its achievements (including Russian modernized locomotive, Kazakhstan modernization project, setting a train weight record in Australia with LOCOTROL). Samples of diesel engine components that GE Rail sources in Russia were also shown at the booth.
Numerous Russian Railway's people, potential suppliers, media representatives, students and just railway fans visited GE's exposition. At the end of the show the booth was viewed by Mr. Khasyan Sh. Zyabirov, First Vice President, OAO Russian Railways. Mr. Zyabirov expressed his keen interest in the products GE offers and the GE team updated him on the modernization project's progress as well as the advantages it brings to the customer.
GE Rail sees this exhibition as the first in a row of railway events arranged in Russia & CIS. GE's locomotive modernization type has recently been certified by the Registrar of Railway Transport. This opens the way for GE's modernization to be used by rail transportation operators in Russia. Successful completion of the summer operational tests will mark the satisfaction of all OAO Russian Railways' test requirements. Besides the area of locomotive development GE is actively working with a leading Russian signaling institution to find and solidify areas of common interest. In all areas GE's focus is on developing the ability to produce high-quality GE products in Russia for the Russian railway industry. Therefore, GE Rail is confidently looking forward to expand its activity in the region aimed at investing new technologies, new solutions and new production opportunities in Russia.
