Contribution reflects commitment to communities, employees and men and women of the U.S. military
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GE today announced a $250,000 contribution to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) whose primary mission is to help build better lives for disabled veterans and their families. The presentation and tribute to the men and women of the U.S. military was made on the live 2-hour series premiere of NBCU's "Clash of the Choirs."
The $250,000 contribution was presented by former Brigadier General Frank Taylor, GE chief security officer. Mr. Taylor has over 35 years of government service, which includes roles as Assistant Secretary of State for diplomatic security and U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for the State Department under then Secretary of State Colin Powell.
"GE takes great pride in the Company's commitment to hiring veterans as well as supporting those employees who continue to serve in the military," said Mr. Taylor. "We are honored to share in the Disabled American Veterans mission of bringing hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live."
This contribution is in addition to the two-year $1.5 million grant presented earlier this year by the GE Foundation, the philanthropic organization of General Electric Company. The GE Foundation grant has allowed the organizations' Transition Service Program to be significantly expanded. This program offers free benefits, counseling and claim filing assistance to disabled troops about to transition into civilian life. DAV will have the ability to hire additional staff, provide outreach into medium-size military and naval bases and offer additional resources at bases already covered by the Transitional Service Office Program.
Today, there are more than 6,000 U.S. veterans employed by GE. The Company has a long history of hiring enlisted military and veterans and provides the tools necessary to help veterans succeed in their jobs.
