May 03, 2002

Dubai, UAE, March 5, 2002 ---- GE Power Systems (GEPS) presented the company's latest technological advances and innovations in power generation, oil & gas, transmission & distribution, network solutions, and air quality services, at its annual State-of-the-Art (SOA) Technology Seminar and Power Expo held yesterday.

Hosted in Dubai by the JW Marriott Hotel, the one-day technology conference and Power Expo, which precedes the GE Middle East Gas Turbine Users Conference (March 5-6, 2002), had a busy seminar schedule with keynote speeches presented by different GEPS specialists from its many businesses around the world.

The SOA technology seminar "is generally considered a must-attend for our wide base of customers involved in the operation and maintenance of GE steam and gas turbines, energy management and plant automation systems, and oil & gas equipment," said Bassem P. Fakhry, Field Marketing Development Leader for GE Energy Services, a division of GEPS.

New product introductions include advanced sealing technology for GE gas and steam turbines designed to reduce leakage, increase output and improve heat rate. GEPS also showcased its Six Sigma quality management programme, with a strong focus this year on customer initiatives highlighting GE's relationship, responsiveness, value and execution.

In addition, recent GEPS acquisitions were presented in a separate booth including Bently-Nevada, the world's leading supplier of vibration monitoring systems, and strategic partner Gulf Turbine Services, the new Abu Dhabi service centre for gas turbine repairs.

A key highlight of the event is the Power Expo held concurrently with the seminar to display GE Power Systems' growing portfolio of products and services in the rapidly changing energy industry, both globally and in the Middle East.

"This is part of our Wellhead to Consumer vision to become the premier provider of global solutions to a very broad and expanding customer base," said Nabil Habayeb, National Executive, General Electric, Gulf and Regional Executive and General Manager, Africa, India and the Middle East, GE Power Systems.

Delegates were also able to interact with GE specialists and sales and marketing representatives to share information on operational, maintenance, and design advances, as well as equipment upgrades and Web-enabled applications.

"The knowledge gained from such face-to-face interactions helps customers optimize the reliability and performance of their existing assets, and is also important to GEPS in providing valuable feedback on regional market trends and the changing needs of its customers," added Fakhry.
