GE Plastics Launches LEXAN Resin Branding Program

June 25, 2002

"LEXAN(R) Resin--Clearly Better" Tag Will Appear on Selected Products and Packaging to Help Drive Consumer Purchase Decisions at the Point of Sale

GE Plastics today announced a new product and packaging tag program for its signature LEXAN(R) brand of polycarbonate resin that is used in thousands of consumer product applications around the world. "LEXAN(R) Resin--Clearly Better" tags will adorn selected products and packages to help GE Plastics customers differentiate their products in the eyes of the consumers by utilizing both the LEXAN brand and the world famous GE brand and monogram.

The new program was announced by the company at Chinaplas 2002, a key trade show and exposition for the plastics industry running from June 25-29 in Shanghai. (Booth #2E46).

"Our focus is on growing our customer's business. When they succeed, we succeed," said Yoshiaki Fujimori, President and CEO of GE Plastics. "As the number one brand name in thermoplastic resins, LEXAN has great visibility with consumers. At the same time, our GE brand is one of the most recognized brands in the world. The GE LEXAN brand tag is an incredibly powerful combination that can help our customers differentiate their products and drive sales."

The modern era of engineering thermoplastics was launched in 1953 when GE scientist Dr. Daniel Fox invented LEXAN polycarbonate resin, an incredibly tough, durable, heat-resistant plastic, recognized immediately as a potential glass substitute. Today, LEXAN resin is widely used in a variety of applications, including computers and business equipment, cell phones and pagers, CDs and DVDs, consumer electronics, household appliances, sporting equipment, food and water containers, and automobiles. Nearly 50 years after its discovery and commercialization, LEXAN resin remains the flagship brand of a GE Plastics product portfolio that includes thousands of grades of thermoplastics and over a dozen other brand names.

"The "LEXAN(R) Resin--Clearly Better" brand tagging program will help consumers to make more informed decisions about their purchases," said John Dineen, GE Plastics' Vice President and General Manager of Global Lexan. "LEXAN resin is a recognized quality brand name, and we want our customers to take advantage of that by making sure their consumers are aware that select products include LEXAN resin. In short, 'GE LEXAN' sells, and that can help our customers to grow their business."
