Doha, Qatar; January 12, 2009: GE's Oil & Gas business is introducing its highly acclaimed Oil & Gas University programme for the first time in the Middle East region in Qatar. The Doha Course of the GE Oil & Gas University will be held from January 11 to February 19, 2009 at Qatar Petroleum (QP) and will be a global learning experience for professionals in the oil and gas sector. A similar programme is also being held in Abu Dhabi from January 14, 2009.

The Doha Course has been specifically tailored to provide participants with managerial and technical information that will further consolidate their expertise in the oil and gas sector. Experts from GE as well as professional associates will cover various aspects of the energy industry including energy sources, exploration, production and utilization. The Doha Course, with a maximum of 30 participants, will be a value-added learning programme for employees of QP, and its affiliated companies and subsidiaries, and will aim to infuse a new wave of thinking to address modern-day challenges faced by the energy sector.

Mohammed Ayoub, Operations Leader - Region General Manager, GE Oil & Gas, said: "GE has a long history of partnering with the energy sector of the Middle East region. By bringing the GE Oil & Gas University here for the first time, we are reiterating our commitment to further strengthen our relationship with the Qatari Industry, contributing to the development of the domain expertise and skills of its professionals. Technologies in energy production and management are evolving at a rapid pace, and it is important for professionals to be in tune with the global best practices. The Doha Course offers this unique opportunity. We are thankful to QP for their support of this initiative."

Sheikh Hamad Saoud Abdulaziz Al-Thani, Head of Professional Training, CTP, Corporate Training Department, Qatar Petroleum said: "GE Oil & Gas has, over the years, played a key role in bringing in new technologies to the regional energy sector. By sharing GE's expertise in energy, the Doha Course will further complement the skills of our professionals, and help us to further enhance our production and management pipeline."

Piero Salvadori, President of Oil & Gas University, said: "GE Oil & Gas University is a thought-leading initiative by GE aimed at enhancing the training and skills of young energy professionals around the world. The Middle East Course is an abridged version of the "Oil & Gas Technologies" program, which is six months long and is held every year at GE's Learning Center located close to the GE Oil & Gas headquarters in Florence, Italy."

The Doha course will consist of a six-week program, to be held from 8am to 2pm, 5 days a week, and will focus on three core modules: Leadership, Energy and Oil & Gas Processes and Rotating Equipment.

The Leadership module covers aspects such as finance, marketing, legal contracts, project management and leadership. The Energy & Oil & Gas Processes module offers an overview of the oil and gas value chain; exploration, production & field development; LNG & GTL; petrochemical & refining processes; energy economics, use and environmental impact; and energy contracts. The Rotating Equipment course covers centrifugal compressors, gas turbines, reciprocating compressors, steam turbines and other equipment. Upon completion of the course, successful participants will be awarded an Attendance Certificate.

With this first Middle East programme in Doha, GE is further establishing its decades-long partnership with the oil and gas sector in the region, which continues to evolve with new opportunities and challenges. The experts from GE Oil & Gas University will also offer insightful learning on the global energy sector vis-à-vis regional considerations.
