GE Oil & Gas Technology Selected to Help Two Snam Rete Gas Storage Facilities in Northern Italy Meet New Emissions Targets

November 16, 2009

FLORENCE, ITALY -- November 16, 2009 -- GE Oil & Gas technology has been selected by Stogit S.p.A., a Snam Rete Gas company focused on gas storage and modulation services, to upgrade two gas storage facilities in Northern Italy, bringing both sites into compliance with new emissions targets.

GE Oil & Gas will supply GE10-2 gas turbines, Dry Low NOx (DLN) emissions systems and additional equipment for the conversion of the Settala and Sabbioncello gas storage plants. The new gas turbines will be installed on the old foundations, matching the existing interfaces and thereby minimizing the impact on the station lay out. They will achieve NOx emissions below 15 parts per million, enabling the plants to meet the new emissions regulations of the Lombardia and Emilia-Romagna regions. The gas turbines will also increase power output at each site by one megawatt.

Jeff Nagel, Vice President Global Services, GE Oil & Gas said: "GE is committed to helping customers boost performance and efficiency on a sustainable basis. In addition to meeting new emissions targets, Stogit's upgrade objectives are to improve the maintenance cycle and increase power at the plants. Selection for the project was based not simply on our ability to deliver these core elements but also on the speed of our expert installation without extending the outage or compromising on quality."

In addition to a GE10-2 gas turbine with a DLN combustion system for each site, the scope of GE's contract includes the supply of dry gas seals, new 'plug and play' Mark Vle controls panels, modification to the buildings, installation and field services, and training on the GE10-2 DLN packages.

The upgrade for the first unit is scheduled for completion by May 2011. GE plans to finish the installations at both plants in 151 days, with no plant shutdowns expected.

The new project follows a similar upgrade contract GE Oil & Gas received from Stogit in late 2008 for the Fiume Treste gas storage facility and brings Stogit's installed GE10-2 units to five.
