GE Oil & Gas Expands Its U.S. Compressor Manufacturing Operations

May 28, 2003

Gemini products line moving to state-of-the-art Oshkosh facility

OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN (May 28, 2003) --- As part of an ongoing effort to further increase its support for customers in a highly competitive industry, GE Oil & Gas is enhancing its compressor manufacturing capabilities for North America through an expanded, state-of-the-art facility in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
GE Gemini, a member of the GE Oil & Gas Group, is relocating manufacturing and testing of its reciprocating compressor line from Corpus Christi, Texas to the new facility in Oshkosh. Its customer support, parts, product engineering and technical support departments will join the growing GE Oil & Gas and GE Aero Energy center in Houston, Texas.
GE A-C Compressor, also a member of the GE Oil & Gas group, completed the first phase of the transition to the new Oshkosh facility with the relocation of all of its manufacturing operations in July of 2002. Corporate offices, sourcing and engineering operations were relocated to Oshkosh in April of 2003.
The Oshkosh facility is producing centrifugal, rotary vane and rotary helical lobe compressors for North American and global customers. With the addition of the Gemini product line the facility now comprises 139,000 square feet.
A tour of the expanded Oshkosh plant will be a highlight of the GE Oil & Gas North American Industry Summit, scheduled for July 31-August 1 in Appleton and Oshkosh, WI. This meeting will provide GE customers with a forum to discuss the state of the industry and will provide information on the latest technology. For additional information about the event, please call (920) 237-2249.
"The consolidation of our compressor businesses will enable us to improve our customer support with a larger engineering, technical and operational base," said Mark Emerick, General Manager --- GE Oil & Gas Operations (Oshkosh). "This world-class facility helps to position our business for long-term growth in today's growing but competitive compressor industry."
Among the benefits of the relocation are:
* New "cleanroom" and assembly capabilities in the Oshkosh facility, with an assembly floor space increase of over 50% for Gemini compressor line manufacturing
* Substantial improvements in non-destructive testing, research and product testing capabilities
* Improved cleaning and painting capabilities
* Synergies with the existing GE Oil & Gas manufacturing, customer support and project management resources located in Oshkosh
The GE Gemini product line includes high-speed separable natural gas compressors (60-7200 horsepower) and related parts that are used across the world in a variety of applications, including gas gathering, wellhead compression, gas storage and pipelines, turbine fuel gas boosting, compressed natural gas for vehicles, and offshore gas production. Gemini Compressors was acquired by GE Oil & Gas in 1999.
GE Oil & Gas, a unit of GE Power Systems, is headquartered in Florence, Italy, the home of Nuovo Pignone, a long-time global leader in gas compression and turbogeneration products. GE acquired ownership of Nuovo Pignone in 1994 and since then has continued to expand its oil and gas business by acquiring or developing partnerships with other technology and experience leaders in the industry. In addition to Nuovo Pignone, Gemini and A-C Compressor, other companies in the GE Oil & Gas group include GE Packaged Power Odessa, Rotoflow and Conmec of the U.S.; Thermodyn of France and PII Pipeline Solutions of the U.K.
