GE Makes It Easy to Change a Light -- New GE Energy Smart™ Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Product Line Offers Dimmable, Daylight and Smaller Size

October 02, 2007

Consumer Focus III/Eco-Consumer

CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Afraid to change a light bulb? While most consumers know that fluorescent and CFL bulbs can save energy, they may believe that these lights still hum, flicker, give their homes an eerie green glow and are sized too big for their fixtures. Today's state-of-the-art GE Energy Smart™ bulbs turn on almost instantly, produce no sound, offer light in both the cool and warm spectrums and are now available in a variety of shapes and sizes -- from globe, to mini spirals, to chandelier -- to fit almost any fixture.

Now, there's no excuse to not Change the World. The ENERGY STAR® Change a Light, Change the World campaign is an annual challenge during October and November for all Americans to switch to ENERGY STAR qualified lighting products.

Most GE Energy Smart™ Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs are ENERGY STAR qualified and, in general, use 70-75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer. Most compact fluorescent lamps provide the same amount of light (lumens) as their incandescent counterparts, while consuming one-third to one-fourth the amount of energy.

Dimmable CFL Bulbs

GE offers Energy Smart™ Dimmable Spiral® CFLs for use with standard household dimmer switches. They come in 15-watt and 26-watt bulbs, which replace 60-watt and 100-watt incandescent bulbs and dim to 20% of their maximum light output. The color is soft white, and it has a rated life of 10,000 hours.

Daylight CFL Bulbs

GE Energy Smart Daylight CFLs provide a cool daylight color that enhances any décor. These lamps come in 10-watt, 15-watt, 20 and 26-watt bulbs, which replace 40-watt to 100-watt incandescent bulbs respectively. Their life is guaranteed for five years, based on four hours of use per day. This 8,000 hour rated life means that these CFLs last 8 times longer than incandescent lamps.

T2 Spiral® CFL Bulbs

Being smaller makes screw-in T2 Spiral® CFL lamps from GE Consumer & Industrial a big deal. One of the industry's smallest offerings, the T2 CFLs are offered in 10, 13 and 15-watt versions to complement a broad line of GE CFLs. Like all Spiral® CFLs from GE, the new T2 CFLs provide flicker-free starts, warm and pleasing incandescent-like color and excellent lumen maintenance over a 12,000-hour rated life.

According to ENERGY STAR, if every American home replaced their 5 most frequently used light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR, we would save close to $8 billion each year in energy costs, and together we would prevent the greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions from nearly 10 million cars.

ENERGY STAR products are the same or better than standard products, only they use less energy and last longer. When consumers choose GE lighting products that have earned the ENERGY STAR, they can trust that they meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and the DOE.

These new GE Energy Smart lamps are available at most discount, grocery, home improvement, office supply and super center stores.
