Dubai, UAE; September 29, 2012: GE Lighting (NYSE: GE), an industry leader in major lighting solutions for commercial, industrial and residential use, is showcasing its latest range of energy-efficient lighting solutions for indoor and outdoor applications, as well as putting the spotlight on its latest project accomplishments in the region at Light Middle East, the premier conference and exhibition for lighting design and technology to be held from October 1 to 3, 2012, at the Dubai International Convention Center.

With its regional distribution center located in Dubai and a strong regional footprint in indoor and outdoor lighting in the Middle East, GE Lighting is underlining importance of energy-efficient lighting solutions to support sustainable development through its participation at the exhibition. The Headline Sponsor of the exhibition, GE Lighting is also supporting, for the second time, the Best in Class competition, a designer talent contest open to university students in the region for developing energy-efficient lighting design using GE Lighting's specific light sources.

Diederik de Stoppelaar, Global Outdoor Leader of GE Lighting, explained: "Lighting today accounts for nearly 20 percent of all electricity consumption globally, of which up to 75 percent can be saved by switching to energy-efficient LED lighting. At Light Middle East, we are reiterating how LED lighting can be integrated in everyday living and development projects in the region, which today witnesses growing demand for power led by the increase in population and massive infrastructure developments.

"The special showcase of outdoor lighting solutions at Light Middle East is a perfect fit to the region's current focus to develop road, bridge, tunnel and Metro networks. Efficient lighting is integral not only for promoting energy efficiency but also boosting safety, especially in the outdoors. We are providing an integrated bouquet of lighting solutions that meet the needs of the region and help reduce the carbon footprint," he added.

George Bou Mitri, GE Lighting's General Manager of Middle East, Africa & Turkey, added: "GE Lighting is built on the fundamental strengths of innovation and imagination, having pioneered the incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp and the first visible LED light, among others, over the past several decades. At Light Middle East, we look forward to listening to our partners and understand their evolving requirements to potentially create innovation solutions that promote the lighting industry. We are also pleased to support young talent in the region by encouraging them to create cutting edge design solutions for lighting as part of our commitment to building human capital."

Senior managers of GE Lighting will also share their insights on the challenges and opportunities in the lighting industry at the Light Insight Arabia Conference, held on the sidelines of the exhibition.

The GE Lighting solutions at the exhibition cover three key application areas including outdoor, retail & hospitality and roadway & architectural projects -- all of which are relevant to the Middle East's current developmental programmes. The company is placing special emphasis on its outdoor LEDs at the exhibition, featuring three key products -- LED Iberia Dimmable, LED Area Lighter and Flood LED & Tunnel LED - which have vast application in street, bridge and tunnel lighting offering a perfect match for the current regional developments in developing the road and bridge infrastructure.

Most recently, GE Lighting illuminated the Moulay El Hassan Bridge in Rabat, Morocco, with its Iberia LED, a versatile luminaire that combines design excellence with energy savings and extraordinary luminous quality. The lighting system consists of 72 Iberia LEDs at a height of 11 litres. More details on the Rabat installation are at: http://www.gelighting.com/LightingWeb/emea/projects/rabat.jsp

The Iberia LED offers a considerable increase in both vertical and horizontal uniformity, which along with the chromatic reproduction of the LED technology facilitates facial recognition and visual comfort. The long useful lifetime of the LEDs -- 50,000 hours -- considerably reduces maintenance and replacement costs. With a similar long-rated life, the new LED Area Lighter is also ideal for outdoor lighting. Much closer to daylight, the ambience of white light provided is perceived as brighter enabling one to distinguish colors easily. It is best suited for parking areas, pedestrian zones or general illumination.

GE Lighting was also involved in providing sustainable lighting solutions for Whyndham Regency Hotel in Doha, Qatar, for 246 guest rooms and suites. GE provided 4,200 pieces of GU10 and MR 16 LED retrofit products that consume only 6W energy each, compared with conventional products using 50W energy. The environmental impact of the installation was a saving of 184,800W energy per year and 12,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions eliminated every year.

Investing heavily in innovation, GE's LED solutions can save up to 70 percent in energy consumption, and up to 20 percent in upgraded conventional lighting sources. The company's LED products are also lead and mercury free, which plays a key role in driving environmental sustainability, and its newest range of products, has the potential to contribute to up to 50 percent in energy cost savings.

Technology innovation and the company's ecomagination initiative -- which puts into practice GE's belief that financial and environmental performance can be integrated to accelerate profitable growth for the company - enable GE Lighting to aggressively bring to market products and solutions that help customers meet pressing environmental challenges.

Most recently, GE Lighting demonstrated the energy efficiency of its lighting solutions with its state-of-the-art lighting system on the landmark Tower Bridge in the UK as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. GE lights also took centrestage during the 2012 Olympic Games with the Tower Bridge fitted with its giant Olympic Rings and Paralympic Agitos for the 45 days of the Games. The Tower Bridge lighting will stay permanent and have reduced energy consumption by up to 40 percent compared with the previous lighting system. More details about GE Lighting's contributions to the first Sustainable Olympic Games can be found at: http://www.gelighting.com/LightingWeb/emea/news-and-media/news/sustainable-olympics-with-ge-lighting.jsp

GE Lighting has a rich history in the Middle East having established long-standing business association with over 70 key partners over the past several decades. The company established its full-fledged team in the region 15 years ago, and today has the most talented professionals driving the operations.
