GE Hydro Providing Turbines, Generators for New Brazilian Power Plant

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL (February 10, 2003) --- GE Hydro is supplying three hydro turbines, generators and additional equipment to Campos Novos Energia S.A. for a new, 880-megawatt power plant in Campos Novos, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Under the US$47.8 million contract, the equipment will be installed at the new Usina Hidrelétrica Campos Novos facility along the Canoas River. Scheduled to enter service in 2006, the plant will provide power for the wholesale power market in Brazil.
In addition to three vertical Francis hydraulic turbines with 311 MVA vertical generators, GE Hydro is supplying a 230 kV station, penstock, hydromechanical equipment, overhead and gantry cranes, step-up transformers, electrical auxiliaries, a digital control and supervision system, relay protection, telecommunications and spillway observation systems. Engineering and design, purchasing, fabrication, transportation, erection supervision and commissioning supervision are also included in the contract.
GE Hydro Inepar, based in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, is manufacturing the equipment at two locations in Brazil, São Paulo and Curitiba. Shipment of the equipment began in August 2002 and will extend through November 2005. Unit 1 will begin commercial operation in January of 2006 with units 2 and 3 to follow in April and July of 2006, respectively.
Construções e Comércio Camargo Corrêa S.A. of São Paulo is the consortium leader for the project. Engevix Engenharia S.A. of Flórianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, is conducting the civil engineering and design of the power plant except for the intake and spillway, which will be provided by CNEC Engenharia S.A. of São Paulo.
